Movies

Scott and I love to watch movies. There was a bit of a dry spell where there either weren't any that we wanted to see, or we were too busy while the ones we wanted to see were in the theater. So, until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 came out in November, I think the last movie we'd been to see was Eclipse. However, we saw HP7 twice (once on the regular screen then once in IMAX with some friends). Then, we've been to see Tangled and the new Narnia movie in the past couple of weeks.

We really like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part1. Obviously, with a book that long, they had to condense a lot of scenes, but I still felt like they stayed pretty true to the book on this one. In previous movies, mainly in the Goblet of Fire, they strayed so far from the book that I felt they actually changed the character of the characters, if you know what I mean. They ended Part 1 in a place that ensures that Part 2 will be nothing but non-stop action and have us on the edge of our seats the whole time! I am really excited to see that one but at the same time I'll be sad for the series to be over.

Tangled was a really cute movie. I really want to get ahold of the Little Golden Book version of Rapunzel because I want to see if the story was anything like the real Rapunzel. I can't remember anything about it, except the hair and the tower. Of course everything ended with a "happy ever after."

The newest Narnia movie, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, was very entertaining as well. I have never read any of the books, so I can't compare them. I will probably read them one day, but I might wait until the movies are all out so I won't watch the movies comparing them to the books.

I am an AMC Moviewatcher member, so the last time we went, we got a free ticket that we have to use before the end of January. So, we'll be going to see something else very soon.

We've also been renting movies from Netflix. We watched a movie that Emma Watson, from Harry Potter, did a few years ago on instant watch. It was called Ballet Shoes. Yeah, not that great of a movie. It was kind of pointless, but I didn't think the acting was bad. We borrowed the Alice in Wonderland with Johnny Depp from my dad and I actually really enjoyed it. I thought it would just be ridiculous, so I wasn't expecting much, so I guess that's why I liked it. I had heard several people say they weren't impressed. Before we watched that version, we watched another real-people version of Alice in Wonderland and the animated Disney version. We watched The Kingdom last night and that was a very action-packed movie. The main character was Jamie Foxx. I don't think I had watched him in anything since the TV show In Living Color so I was surprised that he was so good at playing a serious character! The show was based on terrorism in Saudi Arabia. A military compound is attacked and the FBI comes in to help them figure out what happened and who is to blame. Oh man, this movie was so stressful. Next on our queue is The Life and Faith of C.S. Lewis. We did an instant watch of a documentary called America's Godly Builders: Wallbuilders. It talked about how America's founding fathers intended for Christianity to be a part of the American life. I must admit that I made the mistake of laying down during this one b/c I couldn't get comfortable and fell asleep a couple of times. But, I got the gist. Scott really liked it and we'll probably watch more stuff like that on instant watch. We also watched Sweet Home Alabama because Scott had never seen it and I wanted to see it again. We both agree that that one should go on our wishlist because it's a keeper. Since we really don't want to spend all our time at home watching movies, we have the cheapest version of Netflix - we get two rentals per month, one at a time, and 2 hours of instant watch per month. Sometimes, we end up keeping a movie for over a month because we aren't able to watch it, so we don't need to spend more.

Well, I hope you are tempted to watch some of these movies that we've seen lately if you haven't already. Hopefully I'll download some holiday gathering pictures and do a post on that soon.

Take care!

Wolverine

We went to see the movie Wolverine on Saturday. It was really good! I enjoyed the action and it also explains a lot of the mystery surrounding Logan in the X-Men movies. Also, it definitely left room for another movie between when this one ends and the first X-Men movie began.

There are a lot of movies coming out this summer that we want to see. Harry Potter, Transformers, GI Joe, and I am sure there are a few more that Scott mentioned last night. Are there any movies out there this summer that you just have to see?

We leave on Wednesday morning for our trip. I can't wait!

Fireproof

fireproofbanner

Scott and I went to see Fireproof the movie yesterday afternoon with several couples from our church. This movie is really awesome. I think that it would even benefit single people. I thought the acting was great. This movie really showed how important it is to keep our covenant with God that we make through marriage. This movie was made by the same people that made Facing the Giants and Flywheel. I have not seen either of them, but now I really want to.

Go see if yourself and let me know what you think.

The Dark Knight

Two Saturdays ago, Scott and I went to see the newest Batman movie, The Dark Knight, with our neighbors Nan and John and their friend John and his daughter Nichelle. We had a lot of fun hanging out with them and then the movie was awesome (in my opinion, and I Scott seemed to agree). I learned from John (the friend, not Nan's boyfriend) that this movie and Batman Begins are actually a new Batman series by DC Comics. The old movies with Michael Keaton, George Clooney, and Val Kilmer (did I miss someone?) were done by Hollywood and apparently they made all the comic books people mad because they strayed too far from the real thing. Okay. I can appreciate that as someone who never thinks they stay close enough to the books in most movies I see that are out of books.

This movie has a lot of suspense, a love story, violence (like fighting and stuff, which it wouldn't be Batman if there weren't, right?), and all kinds of characters. I am almost certain that I jumped so hard one time that I shook our entire row of seats and at one point in time, I know that at the end of a particular scene, I realized that I had been sitting with my mouth wide open for several seconds (possibly minutes) with a shocked expression on my face. I may have even screamed out loud a couple of times! Whew! I was worn out when that movie was over! (And don't you all now feel sorry for Scott to have to go to all these movies with me when I behave this way?)

I would definitely recommend this movie. It was great! There was not even superfluous amount of cursing in it. Maybe a couple of words, but not like a lot of movies these days. The movie is rated PG-13 and I think that is about right.

Have you seen it? What did you think? Most people I have talked to really liked it, but my boss said it was "okay" because a few scenes seemed to drag out to him. But, I can't think of any scenes I thought were drug out (is that proper grammar? That always gets me). It does make me sad that Heath Ledger died after filming this for several reasons: 1)obviously it is sad that he died and especially at such a young age and for the reasons that he died, 2) he was a really good actor, and 3) he made a great Joker and they are going to have a tough job of replacing him!

I hope you all have feedback and leave it in a comment!

Keep Checking Back...More to Come

Just to let you all know...the post below is not EVERYTHING I was referring to in my previous post. I have several things to post about. But, I am kind of going out of order. It's my blog, so I can do that. Anyway, we are going to see the new Batman movie tonight with our neighbors Nan and John. I am looking forward to it. I have liked all the other Batman movies. We had completely missed the last Batman movie (Batman Begins), so we rented it and watched it last night so we would be up-to-date on all the others. Did anyone else think it was strange that the story of how Bruce Wayne's parents died was similar but not the same as the story told in the first Batman movie? I found that very strange! Anywho, I'll let you know what we think of the newest one!

Movies and such

Today Scott and I went to see the new Chronicles of Narnia movie, Prince Caspian. We really enjoyed it. You should go see it! It was exciting and there was a bit of romance and of course the usual CS Lewis twist on things where Aslan symbolized Christ and the characters in the movie have waivering faith because they cannot see him.

I have had a lot of people ask me how I like my job. I like it. It is a totally different environment than anything I have ever experienced before. There are so many types of people there. There are quite a few people that I work with who are democrats, which is interesting. The controller of our company likes to give them a hard time...it's fun to listen. He was giving my neighbor a hard time the other day by asking her questions she couldn't answer about government and politics and my boss and I were trying to work, but all we could do was sit there and listen to see what she would say. There are a lot of people who aren't Christians as well. Everyone is nice, though. When I first started, I was afraid that I really did not have enough work for 40 hours a week. Now, I have a lot more responsibilities and I stay busier. Especially this next couple of weeks; my boss is going to be out of town and he asked me to do a lot of the things he would normally do. But, I would rather be busy than bored. Everyone there is really smart...without even having to work at it. It's crazy.

So, that's our update for now. I hope you are all having a good weekend!

Movies

Scott and I both really like movies. There are always so many out that we want to go see. A lot of times, we miss them. But, we have gotten to see quite a few that we have wanted to see lately.
A few weeks ago, Callie, Caitlin, Lauren, and I went to see Made of Honor together since the three of us are bridesmaids in Callie's wedding. Afterwards, Lauren, Caitlin, and I picked out shoes for the wedding (so fun). I enjoyed the movie, but there was some language and certain scenes that we weren't big fans of. I wouldn't say that it is an R movie, but I would say that it is worse than PG13. It was kind of a reverse version of My Best Friend's Wedding, but with a better ending.

Scott and I went to see the movie Expelled recently. This is the Ben Stein movie about how scientists are refusing to admit that there is any kind of intelligent design involved in the creation of the earth and all the things and people on it. I found it very interesting.

Friday night, we met at Discover Mills after work and had dinner (during a terrible thunder storm), then we went to see the new Indiana Jones movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I really did enjoy this movie. I thought that it was not as realistic as the previous movies. Not that I thought that any of the stuff in his previous movies could happen, but this one was a bit more cheesy and over the top. But, I think it definitely leaves room for more sequels. Shia LeBeouf is also a big star in this movie and I really thought he did a great job as well.
The other movie we really want to see is the new Chronicles of Narnia movie, Prince Caspian. I have heard it is really good. So, hopefully we'll get out to see it soon. Tomorrow, we are taking advantage of our day off by going to the GA Renaissance Festival. We will not forget the reason we get the day off: to remember and appreciate all the veterans and the current men and women in our military. We should all say a prayer for them and show our appreciation however we can.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Last night Scott and I went with a group of people to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I thought that it was a really good movie in and of itself. We saw it on the IMAX screen and I thought it was well worth the extra money. If you have read the book, just like with the 4th movie, you have to go in knowing that the movie will be very different. The acting was great and they did a great job of matching actors to the characters! I would definitely recommend it...but I really don't think these movies are really "kid" movies. I would say 12 and older maybe.
